Austrian director Philipp M. Krenn began his artistic training as a soloist with the Vienna Boys‘ Choir. His first graduate studies took him ina completely different direction – undertaking a degree in engineering at the Vienna Technical University. Shortly before completing this degree, Krenn decided to return to the theatre – obtaining an acting degree at the Vienna Conservatorium. He then worked as an actor and learnt the director’s craft as assistant to world renowned drectors like Robert Carsen, David Alden, Christine Mielitz, Sven Eric Bechtolf, Simon Stone at the Salzburg Festival, Vienna’s Theater an der Wien, the Wiener Festwochen, Berlin‘s Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Opéra National de Paris and Copenhagen’s Royal Opera. He worked as a co-director with Philipp Stölzl, Alvis Hermanis and Damiano Michieletto at the Salzburg Festival, Dresden’s Semperoper, Munich’s Bayerische Staatsoper, Teatro La Fenice in Venice and the Bregenz Festival. Krenn has directed works for companies including Staatstheater Wiesbaden, Staatstheater Braunschweig, Vienna’s Neue Oper, the Styrian Autumn Festival in Graz, at Theater an der Wien/Kammeroper and Vienna‘s Volksoper.
