Sarah Traubel Releases New Shostakovich CD

On 30 May, French label Aparté will release a remarkable new recording of the Symphony no. 14 by Dmitri Shostakovich, featuring soprano Sarah Traubel and bass Roman Lyulkin, with Vahan Mardirossian conducting the Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie. This album features Shostakovich’s Fourteenth Symphony, dedicated to Benjamin Britten. With eleven movements for voice, string orchestra, and percussion, this uniquely dark, riveting masterpiece explores death through poems translated to Russian from multiple languages, offering a raw and direct reflection on the theme of death.
