Ana Naqe: Triumph at La Monnaie
Soprano Ana Naqe received rave reviews for her stunning performance in the title role of Harold Noben’s new opera Bovary at Brussels’ La Monnaie. The Albanian-Belgian singer, who had repeatedly appeared at the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie, the Bregenzer Festspiele, Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, the Flemish Opera in Antwerp and Ghent, embodied the lead role in a piece devoted to the life story of Flaubert’s Emma Bovary, from the young bride’s dreams to her tragic end. “At the heart of this performance is the passionate performance of soprano Ana Naqe, who devotes her entire body and mind to delving into the multitude of emotions of her character. The performance is impressive.”
“The central figure of the show, Ana Naqe, marks her performance with a controlled sensuality and a detachment tinged with tragedy. The rich pearly, ornamented, ample voice of the Albanian soprano gives it an expressive warmth that her acting subtly contains.”
